Christmas 07
Well Christmas is over...
Jack took 6 steps on his own on Christmas morning.
It was the best Christmas our family has had in years and it was so wonderful to have both of our families at Jack's house to enjoy it. The weather was perfect and the food was delicious. Stuart cooked an enourmous 5Kg salmon and catered for 14 people all on his own in our tiny kitchen.
The best things that Santa bought Jack were a dinosaur like Kai's and a lion walker. Grandpa made Jack a table and chairs and Pop and Nan bought a sand pit complete with sand. Unlike other babies that go for the wrapping or the box, Jack tore the paper off to find what was inside and loved each of his gifts.
Yesterday Mum and Jack went to see great Nan and Pop in bemboka and we came home with another car-load of toys. We also enjoyed a beautiful baked dinner.
The photos don't really do any justice to the perfect day that we had because the photographer was mostly busy pouring drinks and figuring out the new video camera but stay posted because there will be some 'first steps' footage soon.
Christmas 07 |
... only 3 more weeks until the big birthday.

Jack's First Christmas
Mum, Dad and Jack are very excited about Jack's first Christmas. Only 3 more sleeps!
Notice that I am wearing winter clothes, that's because it was 16 degrees today and it's been pouring with rain all week.

Good Bye Wanniasssa - A post just from Mum
Today was my last day at Wanniassa after 5 years of working there as a special needs/ textiles/ maths/ english/ learner assistance/ ESL/ work experience/IT teacher.
It was mostly disapointing to recieve my Wanniassa mug and pen today because that was literally all I got from all of the staff and students at Wanniassa. Not a goodbye or good luck or even a thankyou for all of the hardwork and dedication that I had given them. I have to say that today I left on a very low note.
Goodbye Wanniassa a new chapter begins...

Middle Ear Infection
Yesterday was a bit scary because Jack had a temperature of 40.1 and he was very hot and upset. Last night Jack screamed the house down from 2 -4.30 am and woke up every half and hour or so throughout the night until he came to bed with us at 4.30. So we went and saw the doctor and we couldn't see our regular doctor so we were stuck with Dr. Boss Nass who diagnosed a 'miidle eeear iinfection' *heavy indian accent.* He was a bit of a scary doctor but very efficient, our appointment was for 11am and at 10.55 he had already figured out the problem. Jack has antibiotics and is improving every hour but still with regular panadol.
We hate seeing our boy so upset and hopes that he is feeling better tomorrow. Dr Boss Nass says, 'two days.'

Learning to walk
We just thought that we should keep you 'posted.' Jack took 2 steps by himself from the couch to the foot stool on Sunday and today he took
4 steps from the door to Kai today. We are very excited and trying to encourage Jack but he won't be helped, he wants to do things at his own pace.

Jack's Passport
There are a few important rules to having your passport photo legal by Australian standards.
1. Mouth must be closed and not smiling
2. Face must be straight on
3. Both ears must be showing
4. Applicant must be looking at the camera
Can you IMAGINE how long it took for several girls at the chemist to take this photo? But it's official now - Jack has his first passport at 10 months old. I wonder where he will go?

I couldn't wait to try the new tin and tray that I got from Aunty Jules so this afternoon Jack and I made Jack-sized cupcakes and Jack had his first taste of cupcakes. Guess what - he loved them!

10 months old today
Make custom Glitter Graphics
Dad was home for a nice change this weekend and we had a great time going to CISAC for a swim, having John & Jules for a bbq and spending some time at home. Mum was freaking out at my confidence in the water, I can jump in off the side and climb up the pool steps on my own. Yesterday I met Santa for the first time but we haven't got a photo yet because that awful man made me cry! Mum said we will see him again in a few weeks. You can see from this photo that my eczema has almost completely gone and I am also eating white bread and yogurt!

Jack saw the immunologist
For the last 4 months Jack has had a special diet that didn't include any dairy or soy because it made him sick when he was 5 months old when he was just starting formula so that Mum could go back to work.
We went to the 'witch doctor' for Jack's excema who said he also had a wheat allergy and the whole family should also avoid wheat but that was driving us nuts so we went to the 'real doctor.'
We has lots of tests done and he isn't allergic to nothing - not even
peanuts (thanks Aunty Jules) or seafood or milk or wheat or anything.
The specialist says that it is most likely 'lactose intolerance' and
that if we continue to do what we are doing that is good.
He said we should try him with more foods eg. egg, fish etc. at one
per week and try some of the cows milk formula again and a bit of
yogurt and cheese.
He said the eczema was the best he had seen - it was no big deal and
he didn't think he was at all 'scabby.'
He reckoned that with the amount of milk that I consume that if Jack
had a true allergy to cows milk then he would be really upset, not
sleeping and scabby - not to say that these things would never
develop.
He reckoned that if we cut out a lot of foods from his diet, simply to
avoid a bit of eczema that it could lead to malnourishment.
Done and dusted - $400 later and we are good parents with a happy baby and piece of mind.
Phew!

KID CITY!
Mum heard that Kid City was heaps of fun so we went there today. Mum has decided that in future, Kid City is for special occasions only because the screaming kids gave Mummy a head ache.
My favourite things were the jumping castle, the ball pit and the race track although I could only find the reverse gear!

Holiday at the Beach
This weekend we went for a holiday at the beach. We stayed in a big beach house in South Durras. The highlight of the holiday was my big tooth finally coming through (top, front, left.) Mum checked it in the morning and after lunch it was there. It was mostly cloudy and windy but the pool was warm so we went for 2 swims followed by warm showers.
We went for a 3 hour lunch cruise along the Clyde River and I fell asleep for an hour and a half in the pram on the way home.
We went to birdland before coming home because I just love to feed the animals and pet them (gently!)

CONGRATULATIONS AUNTY RACH!
Aunty Rach has some very big news - soon I will have a little cousin. June 13th is when the baby comes and I am already so excited!
Note from mum - you don't have names picked and do a pregnancy test on the day your period is due unless you are planning - this baby was so planned!

A Perfect Date
Mum and I went to Dendy today and she said I was the perfect date. I slept for an hour and a half whilst most of the other babies in the 'reel mums' session cried and sooked. I crawled around the chairs and had a great time chatting to the babies in the front row. Mum said this was the best movie she has seen since 'Note Book,' a really soppy girl movie - next week we are going to see Evan Almighty.
Mum - Do you know anyone who is deeply in love after many years of marriage? 2 years doesn't really count but Stu and I have been together for almost 8 years and we love each other more and more every school holidays. I can't think of anyone else I'd rather spend every day with.

Thankyou Nan R - from Mum
You must have known what it would be like for me to go back to work after 6 months so even at the first mention you set out plans to help us out. I had no idea what it would be like to leave my baby for the first time and I don't think I could have left him with anyone else but you.
You drove me nuts with your 'lack of routine' but it didn't bother Jack - he slept though the night and learnt how to crawl. You taught him how to'click,' hold his bottle and clap hands too. (we are still working on'Mum Mum') It's a real shame you have to go to work now because in the last few weeks Jack has been really excited to go and see you guys and the chooks.
Thankyou for taking care of Jack and all that encompases, thankyou for going through the 'grand inquisition' every afternoon. We hope you enjoyed your 'petite steak' and koko black. It will never be enough to return the favour that you have done for us.
Love, Bec
PS There will be no more grand children until you have another 10 weeks long service leave. And that's a PROMISE!

Nan R took me to floriade
It was a very, very long day at Floriade from 11 - 3.30 and I was exhausted when I got home but the weather was so beautiful at 19 degrees with perfect blue skies. Aunty Ren even took the day off school to come too. FUN!

8 months old - AND CRAWLING!
Yes that is Dad being lazy on the couch! I can crawl a lot further - about 6 feet in the record but the good video camera is broken and mum's camera can only take 30sec videos so that is all you are getting for now.
This weekend Mum has been really sick. I'm feeding myself because Nan R taught me how to hold my own bottle and Mum is so tired.

When did this baby turn into a little boy? (by Mum)
This weekend we went shopping and bought some pants for Jack. Dad picked the camo cargos. Jack looks just like a mini version of the boys that I teach in year 7. He rides in his pram with his steering wheel - beeping people out of the way with his arm over the side and he holds his own bottle. He doesn't want to eat puree anymore because he'd rather feed himself and he has just taken a few moves forward crawling.
I'm know that every mother thinks her baby is the smartest/ most adorable bundle but I'm sure Jack really is!

Father's Day
For Father's Day I made Dad a photo book from shutterfly. I made some beautiful bacon and eggs and then we went to the Dickson Noodle House for lunch. All of the ladies at the noodle house were so lovely and chatted to me while Mum and Dad had lunch. We went to see Grandma and Grandpa for afternoon tea and then we had a walk around the golf course.

Lunar Eclipse
I had a great day. Aunty Rach came to look after me while mum went to work for a little while and then we walked to play group. When Dad came home we walked around the golf course and then we went for a drive to Mount Stromlo to see the lunar eclipse. I had a 'mashed pumpkin' picnic for dinner in the car!

Having the flu this week hasn't slowed me down. I am up on all fours and cruising around a little on the furniture. I also have my first tooth!
